The Enneagram Type Eight

I am an independent, self-assertive sort of person and I tend to hit life head on. Other people sometimes find me too direct but I believe you should tell it how it is and you can’t make a difference if you pussyfoot around. I think I can be intimidating sometimes but really I’m just a softie underneath.

I have a lot of energy and enjoy life’s challenges. I try to get all the enjoyment I can out of life and I feel most alive when I do what others think is impossible. I like to go to the edge and see if I can beat the odds. My energy often rubs off on others and challenges them to do more, but other people just see me as too pushy and powerful.

Being a decisive, courageous person, I tend to have little patience with indecisiveness or weakness. I believe you can overcome most things with strength of will. This is a tough world and you have to get them before they get you.

At work I like to be my own boss. I like to take charge in most situations anyway – no-one is going to tell me what to do. I expect those around me to be loyal and to treat me with respect. Those who betray me had better watch out. When my anger comes up I can get in a towering rage and it can flatten most people if they are in the way. One of the things that really makes me angry is injustice. I am really protective and will stand up for the underdog, if needed.
