The Five
The Enneagram Type Five
I tend to watch and observe before I get involved or participate in things – and often I just think about it rather than do it. Socially, I’m not good at small talk but I can more than hold my own on any of the many subjects that I am knowledgeable about.
I am more knowledgeable than most people realise, in fact sometimes I find myself looking down on others less intelligent than me. My mind is so intense and busy that it feels like it’s working at a million miles a minute. However, I keep most of it to myself. Other people would think I was crazy if they knew what I was really thinking most of the time.
When it comes to my social life, I like to know in advance what’s expected of me and plan in my mind how it will go. After the event, I un-pack and re-live the interaction and the emotions from which I had detached from at the time.
I am an extremely private person and don’t let many people know what I’m thinking and feeling. Few people know the real me. I prefer to be self-reliant and demand little from others. I've tended to be absorbed in my own world and hate too many demands and intrusions; in fact, I find it difficult if I do not have sufficient time alone to recharge my batteries. Although I have been accused of being aloof, I am actually just thoughtful, dependable and respectful.
